Tommy Lee mocks his broken ribs, throwing the ribs (the food) into the crowd

When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade, and when life gives you broken ribs, yes … you serve some ribs and beer to your audience. At least that’s what Tommy Lee did below Motley Crue‘s stop at Nationals Park in Washington, DC on Wednesday night (June 22).

As with previous tour stops, Lee has performed with parts of Crue’s set, where he has thrown it out to fans while playing through four broken ribs. But now that he found the humor in the difficult situation, Lee decided to pamper some of the audience with some ribs and beer.

“For those who know, here’s a little joke about the whole situation,” Lee told the audience, as can be seen in the video he shared below. “For those of you who do not know, I have brought a pair of unbroken ribs that you can drop on.”

“Let’s party, for hell. The ribs? How about some damn ribs ?,” he continued, throwing his tray full of ribs out into the crowd.

Lee has started the band’s appearances, and like previous stops, he performed the night’s first three songs – “Wild Side”, “Shout at the Devil” and “Too Fast for Love”, before giving way to Tommy Clufetos to fill in for the rest of The set. Lee also later returned to play piano and drums on Motley’s 80s hit “Home Sweet Home,” per. Setlist.fm.

Although he had fun with the crowd with the rib joke, Lee admitted to the crowd that it has not been a walk in the park. “Have any of you ever broken a damn rib? Yes? Is that some shit or what?” exclaimed the musician, revealing that even breathing was sometimes painful.

Despite the pain, Lee remains behind the kit for the band, at least in part of every show. Motley Crue is currently in the middle of “The Stadium Tour” along with Def Leppard, Poison, Joan Jett and the tour openers Classless Act. The band will play in Flushing, New York tonight (June 24), with dates on the way in Philadelphia, Charlotte and Nashville next week. Get your tickets here.
