Saweetie To Guest Star In Season 2 Of ‘Bel-Air’

Sweetheart has been tapped to guest star in the second season of the popular drama series Bel-Airwhich returns to the Peacock in February.

According to Varietywill the Bay Area rapper appear as himself in Fresh Prince of Bel-Air-inspired series. It was not specified how many episodes she will be included in.

Based on the viral short director Morgan Cooper released in 2019, Bel-Air is a contemporary drama focused on recreating the complicated journey of the show’s protagonist, Jabari Banks, from the streets of West Philadelphia into the lap of luxury that abounds in the exclusive gated community of Bel-Air.

With executive production coming from Will Smith himself and original show heavy hitters like Quincy Jones and Benny Medina, the goal of the series is to “dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases that were impossible to fully explore in a 30-minute sitcom format.”

The show, which was picked up by the Peacock for two seasons, debuted in 2022 and quickly gained fans, even beyond those who loved the original NBC sitcom. Among them were DJ Jazzy Jeffwho expressed his support for the new series during an interview with HipHopDX.

“I was not involved in making [of the show]but I am one of the official’s hosts Bel Air Podcast it’s coming out,” said the celebrity producer, who famously played Will’s best friend Jazz in the original series. “I’m super-duper excited because, without giving away any spoilers, if anyone were to take it The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in the ’90s and move it to ’20 to ’22 and put a dramatic spin on it, I don’t think they could have done a better job.

He continued: “I think more people are going to talk about Bel-Air than the Super Bowl. It’s so good. If I take myself out of it, this is insane. This might be my favorite show ever.”

The Bel-Air: Official Podcast debuted in February 2022 with DJ Jazzy Jeff and co-host Aida Osman. For the opening episode they spoke Bel-Air director and executive producer Morgan Cooper. The companion series followed up with an interview with Cooper, composers Terrace Martin and Robert Glasper, and co-showrunner Rasheed Newson about how important fashion and music are to the show for Episode 2.

While she wants to play herself further Bel-Air, Saweetie comes to the show with previous acting experience. That The “ICY GRL” rapper made her acting debut on ABC’s Adult-like in 2021, where he played a bossy rapper named Indigo.

According to the “Tap In” rapper, she doesn’t like it when people self-proclaim or adopt a title on their own.

“I don’t want to proclaim the ‘Queen statement’ myself, but when I’m in certain cities or certain areas, they just want to call me this and call me that,” Saweetie said. “I’ve been called ‘the queen of California’ and many queenly things. It’s not something I try to name, that’s why I got another voice to say it about me [‘Single Life’] project. I don’t like it when people proclaim themselves.”
