Max B’s judgment is to be examined in the Spotify Podcast

Max B’s conviction will be the subject of season four of Gimlet’s Conviction Spotify podcast anthology series.

Spotify released the trailer for The conviction of Max B on Wednesday (Jan. 11) with host Brandon “Jinx” Jenkins narrating the synopsis. The five-episode series will focus on the fateful night in 2006 when Max B allegedly planned a heist that went wrong and ended in a kidnapping and murder.

Jenkins will also take listeners behind the lawsuit that gave the rapper an initial 75 years in prison.

“This is the story of a rapper who risked it all for a bag full of money, a robbery gone wrong, a messy trial and a verdict that makes you question who the justice system works for and who it works against,” says a press release.

The conviction of Max B arrives on January 17, with all five episodes immediately available to stream.

In 2009, Max B was sentenced to 75 years behind bars for his alleged involvement in an armed robbery gone wrong. He was charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault and felony murder.

The Harlem-born rapper is said to have planned to rob two men with his stepbrother, Kelvin Leerdam, and ex-girlfriend, Gina Conway, at a Holiday Inn in New Jersey in September 2006. The botched robbery resulted in one of the men was shot dead.

Max had his sentence significantly reduced to 20 years in 2016 after entering into a plea agreement, before announcing three years later that it had been is further reduced to 12 years.
