Mac Critter of Gucci Mane’s 1017 records charged with murder

Mac Critter, a rapper signed to Gucci Mane‘s 1017 Records imprint, has been formally charged with first-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting in December 2022.

According to a report from Fox13 on Tuesday (January 3), Mac Critter (real name Daniel Bates) is one of four men involved in the shooting that took place in North Memphis on December 21. After a court hearing, Critter’s attorney said he was surprised his client was not given bond.

“I thought my client would have gotten a bond,” he said. “It is alleged in the affidavit that he was there, but he is not the shooter. When [fellow suspect] Gary Taylor got bond, he was the alleged shooter. I was optimistic that we would get a tie today, but we didn’t.”

Markeith Taylor was found dead at the scene after being shot “multiple” times by four men in an SUV, according to a witness. The four men approached him and drew their guns after he was called over to their vehicle, and were then shot dead allegedly by the aforementioned co-suspect, Gary “Lil Gary” Taylor.

All suspects remain behind bars and are scheduled to be back in court on January 10.
