Lea Michele continues hard to prepare for her return to Broadway in Funny girl. On Monday (August 1), the actress posted an Instagram story that gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at a dance rehearsal.
In the black-and-white video, she performs a tap routine while flanked by two mask-wearing back-up dancers, ending the eight count with the flourish of a spin and salute. After the music ends, she and her fellow dancers burst into cheers and high fives.
Michele is slated to step into the role of Fanny Brice from September 6 following original star Beanie Feldstein’s somewhat controversial, early exit from production. That Lady Bird the actress was originally supposed to stay with the revival until September. Michele’s former Glee co-star Jane Lynch will also make her final curtain call as Fanny’s mother, Mrs. Brice, on September 4th. Four-time Tony nominee Tovah Feldshuh replaces her, along with the “Cannonball” singer.
News of Glee alum casting in the Broadway musical was met with little of controversy in the wake of several of her former castmates from the FOX musical hit coming forward back in 2020 about her mistreatment of certain actors and extras on set.
However, Michele’s recent career development is also bizarre follows her story as Rachel Berry, which included spectacular performances of “Don’t Rain on My Parade” and “I’m the Greatest Star,” “People” and more over the course of the series, as well as, yes, a starring role in a fictional revival of Funny girl.
