Kasabian sails to UK No.1 with ‘The Alchemist’s Euphoria’

Kasabian is to create UK chart gold with Alchemist’s euphoria.

The British alternative rock outfit leads the way midweek UK chart with Euphoria (via Columbia), and does so with considerable ease. The LP outperforms the rest of the Top 5 combined, the Official Charts Company reports, and is cruising to a sixth British crown for the Leicester band.

Alchemist’s euphoria is Kasabian’s seventh studio set, and the first with founding guitarist Sergio Pizzorno on lead vocals following frontman Tom Meighan’s departure in July 2020 in controversial circumstances.

It is the follow-up to 2017’s chart-leader For crying out loud. Every studio set from Kasabian has gone to #1 in their home country since their sophomore effort empirefrom 2006 (the band’s 2004 self-titled debut reached No.4).

Coming in at No. 2 on Official chart update is Pale WavesUndesirable (Dirty Hit). If it holds up, Undesirable will give the Manchester-based indie rock quartet a career-best chart position, bettering their previous releases My mind makes noises (No. 8 in 2018) and Who am I? (No. 3 in 2021).

Synth-pop veterans also see Top 10 arcs Deletion with Day-Glo (based on a true story) (via Mute), new at No. 6 on the chart blast; and the ska collective The Dualers with Voices from the sun (via Sunbeat), heading for a No. 8 record; while Danger mouse and Black Thoughts collaborative album Cheat codes (BMG) could make a Top 20 debut, currently at No. 16.
