See Judas Priest reunite with KK Downing live at the 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony

It has FINALLY happened! Judas Priest has been admitted to Rock and Roll Hall of Fameand they did so in spectacular fashion by playing a medley of songs within their allotted time after being felicitated with Musical excellence Honour. And after a bit of a split following his departure from the band over ten years ago, guitarist KK Downing played again with his former bandmates.

Downing’s name was one of three former Priest members revealed to be inducted when the Rock Hall announced their induction earlier this year. He together with the drummer Les Binkswas part of Saturday’s (Nov. 5) performance, which also included four longtime Priest band members: singer Rob Halfordguitarist Glenn Tiptonbassist Ian Hill and drummer Scott Travis.

They were also joined by the current guitarist Richie Faulkner, who were not among the inmates. The other Priest inductee was the late drummer Dave Murray. Drummer Scott Travis revealed last month that the band would be performs a medleyand it was later revealed that both Binks and Downing would also perform with the group.

After their heartfelt induction of Alice Cooper, the band played three of their most beloved singles: “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin'”, “Breaking the Law” and “Living After Midnight”. The former number originally appeared in the 1982s Scream for revenge (Which one High thread ranked as Priest’s second best studio LP), whereas the latter two pieces came from the 1980s British Steel (which remains Priest’s highest charting album on UK Albums Chartat no. 4).

According to setlist.fmit marked Downing’s first show with Priest since October 2009 and Binks’ first show with them since 1979. Historical significance aside, the set was full of great spectacle, with lots of flashing colored lights and burning visuals (literally) adorning the group’s virtually flawless renditions. It was undoubtedly a highlight of the entire evening.

Longtime fans will recall that Downing parted ways with the group in 2011, citing an “ongoing breakdown in working relations.” After his exit, the band continued with Richie Faulkner joining on guitar. As for guitarist Glenn Tipton, he revealed his Parkinson’s disease diagnosis in 2018 and has been vocal about not being approached to return to the band. (In his place, the group employed the talents of producer Andy Sneap.) In recent years, Downing has started up KK’s Priest, and the band is currently working on their second album.

Although Downing had previously left the band, in recent years he had been vocal about his displeasure at not being asked to return when openings arose in the band. But since the Rock Hall induction was a place to pay tribute to the group’s legacy, Downing and Binks were both invited by the current lineup to join them for the performance.

talking with Ultimate classic rock ahead of the induction ceremony, the guitarist stated: “The most important thing is to represent the attitude and hopefully the legend of what Judas Priest is and has become and what it means to everyone who has been on the very long journey over decades with the band. And hopefully it will just kind of reminding people and bringing back some cherished memories from the heavy metal parking lots around the world.”

He later addressed his split with the band, commenting, “Obviously a lot of stuff has happened and stuff. But we’re all old people, you know? A lot of water has passed under the bridge, a lot of miles have been traveled, there’s been a lot of notes played. The thing is, we can all be there, have a couple of beers together, a glass of wine and perform and have a good time. At the end of the day, it’s really a recognition and I think ‚Äč‚Äčthat if everyone were to be honest with themselves, they would all like that recognition.”

While Judas Priest are now members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, that doesn’t mean they’re ready to hang it up. In fact, the band continues to work towards a new album, hopefully in 2023, while Downing himself has new music plans for KK’s Priest as well.
