Despite all the posturing, the “Gangsta Boo” rapper shut down any notion of a rift when asked about the 6 God’s apparent jabs in a recent interview with New York Times.
“We’re cool,” she said. “We talked about it a few times and we’re fine. There’s no beef.”
The duo first linked up in August 2022 after the 23-year-old caught Drake’s attention with her breakout hit “Munch (Feelin’ U)” and freestyle on On the radar radiowhich led to Drizzy flying her out to Toronto to attend his OVO Fest.
She recalled the surprise meeting with Drake and told Spotify’s RapCaviar: “When Drake DM’d me, I wasn’t really expecting it.”
She continued: “I just landed in LA for me Genius Open Mic for ‘Munch’ and he was actually like, ‘Yo, ‘Munch’ is tough and yours On the radar freestyle is hard.’ And I was like, ‘Damn, this is crazy, because I’m really in LA shooting Open Mic.'”
“Connecting with him was so cool. Like he’s crazy sweet and respectful. We went to OVO Fest. It was exciting because it was like his first time performing in Toronto, I think in a couple of years. So it was just a movie, everyone was excited.
In the meantime Ice Spice released his debut EP Like..? Friday (January 20). The release — her first under 10K Projects/Capitol Records — features six tracks, including the Diddy-sampling “Gangsta Boo” featuring another Bronx native Lil Tjay.
