‘House Party’ stars say Kid Cudi is “amazing” in new reboot

Kid Cudi‘s House party Co-stars have praised the rapper not only for how seriously he took his latest role, but for his “impeccable” comedic timing.

Talking to HipHopDX, the new film’s stars Jacob Latimore and Tosin Cole had nothing but good things to say about the Cleveland rapper, who appears in the reboot of the 1990 classic as himself. Although both actors admitted that despite previous acting roles, Kid Cudi seemed a little unsure of himself when he started filming the comedy.

“Cudi was incredible,” Jacob Latimore said. “We also got him more comfortable. It was a little nerve-wracking for him, but when you get those laughs after your lines, you start to feel good about what you’re doing. Literally the first time we started filming , we were just dying laughing.”

“He was so much fun to work with,” added Tosin Cole. “He took it so seriously, but he was fun to work with. He made good choices, his comic timing was impeccable. I don’t think people have seen him in this light. There was a time when he did his take and I would be like “That boy is good.”

According to the new House partysynopsis, the “remix” of Kid-N-Play’s first film, sees Latimore and Cole as Kevin and Damon, aspiring club promoters trying to figure out how to make big money gambling to avoid the consequences of losing their jobs as cleaning assistants.

The best friends decide to throw an unauthorized party at the location of their last cleaning job: LeBron James’ fictional home. As they try to execute their plan, Damon and Kevin are faced with a series of challenges, including an angry koala, a time-traveling DJ, a stolen championship ring, and an out-of-control guest list.

In addition to Cudi and LeBron, several other well-known faces appear in it House party as themselves, including Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Tinashe and the stars of the original film, Kid-N-Play.

Kid Cudi landed his first major acting role as one of the leads in HBO’s short-lived series This is how you do it America in 2010. After starring in a handful of independent films, Cudi made his feature film debut in 2014’s Need For Speed. In total, he has appeared in a total of 35 scripted productions, not including eight cameos as himself.

The Cleveland artist most recently starred in his own Netflix animated series Intergalactic as the voice of the main character Jabari. He co-created and co-executive produced the show Black-ish creates Kenya Barris.

In December, he was honored with the Groundbreaker Award for his efforts in the project at the fifth annual Celebration of Black Cinema & Television Awards in Los Angeles.

Cudi’s on-screen success may not bode well for fans of his music. While speaking with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe in September, Cudi suggested Intergalactic album would be his last.

“Kid Cudi stuff, I think I’m going to put it on the back burner and relax with it,” he said. “I think I’ll be done with it. I think to finish the chapter on Kid Cudi. The goal for Intergalactic, I was tired of making albums. Just make an album, two music videos and that’s it. And I was like, ‘Man, I went into this wanting to do something epic and different.’ And now that I’ve done that, I’ve just… I’ve been making a lot of music, man.”

Two months later, after Kid Cudi said he wants to release at least one more album before closing the curtain on his music career; he tweeted that he was no longer interested in creating new music.

“I’ll be happy when I stop making albums so I don’t have to deal with this craziness anymore,” Kid Cudi wrote. It’s not entirely clear what exactly Cudi meant by “this madness” isn’t entirely clear.
