Grimes shares post-surgery photo, says she completed new album in ‘Plastic Surgery Clinic’

Did Grimace actually go through with it? The singer, who lives to provoke, tweeted a photo of what appeared to be her post-surgery face on Saturday with the caption: “I was absolutely insane!” In the snap, the singer’s head and chin were wrapped in surgical gauze and her face was wrapped in medical tape.

In another tweet, she also appeared to confirm that she is done with her new album and that the finishing touches were done in a very sterile environment. “Album done, we’re mixing. My friend and I perfected the last song at the plastic surgery clinic because they wouldn’t let me go and we laughed about how this was the most Hollywood moment ever,” she wrote, noting that she has 20 songs in place so she can break it out BOOK 1 and BOOK 2.

At press time, no further information was available about the album, although Grimes also said she is currently deciding on the format and tracklist for the project. Work appears to be progressing during the convalescence, with Grimes later remarking, “just got a mix back for ‘the infinite assassin,’ when my babies sleep, I’ll be control of mixtures.”

Last month, Grimes revealed that two years ago she made an appointment with a plastic surgeon and thought she might “change things in her mid-30s.” Then Grimes, 34, explained that the body mods she had her heart set on were surgically implanted elf ears and cosmetic vampire teeth, asking fans on Twitter if anyone has “done elf stir mods with good results?” Her inquiry came with an admission that she was “scared that the ear cartilage would have a hard time healing”, particularly worried that as a musician the surgery “seems risky”, even though she has wanted elf ears all her life.

And while we don’t yet know what, if any, body mods Grimes has been up to, one person who had a say in her plans was former Tesla founder Elon Musk, who shares two young children with the singer. “Downside of pixie surgery probably outweighs the upside,” he tweeted on Aug. 16 in an unsolicited takedown of her plans.

Grimes has previously referred to his upcoming project as a “space opera,” with one of the songs planned for the compilation described as a “soon-to-be-ubiquitous-banger” titled “Sci-Fi,” which she co-wrote with The Weeknd and his longtime producer, Illangelo.
