Ex-Megadeth Members ‘Not Concerned’ Over Dave Mustaine’s Reaction to ‘MEGA Years’ Tour

Earlier this year, former Megadeth members David Ellefson and Jeff Young announced that they will join forces as Kings of Thrash (together with ex-guitarist Chris Poland) to embark on a four-show “MEGA Years” tour across the US this fall. Despite what you might think, they are not that worried about what Megadeth masterminds Dave Mustaine thinking about it.

In a recent (September 15) conversation with Rock interview series YouTube channel, interviewing Thomas S. Orwat, Jr. spoke with Young about the upcoming concerts (where Kings of Thrash perform in the 1985s Killing is my business… and business is good! and the 1988s So far, so good… So what! in their entirety).

When asked if he, Poland and/or Ellefson have heard from Mustaine about their new group and plans, he answered quite frankly. As transcribed by Blabbermouth:

We’re really not worried [about Mustaine’s reaction]. I’m not paying attention. . . . For us it is not about any defiance or retaliation; it’s a celebration of the music that we were all a part of, that we helped create. And it’s fun for us to do this. . . . It’s a win-win – it’s a win for us and it’s a win for [Mustaine], because any performance royalties, whatever. . . if we included live tracks he would make money from it. It’s promoting albums that fans will hopefully come back and buy, putting money right in their pockets. . . . For us, it’s all about positivity. We are all in this moment – we live in the moment and we don’t look beyond it. . . . Because we know what our intention is and intention is everything. And our intention is positive. We like to play together. . . .This is just something that the fans wanted and you want to give the fans what they want.

Speaking about the trio’s chemistry and rehearsals so far, Young added that there’s no “toxicity in the room” and that everything “sounds so good.”

“We didn’t have that musicality back then, so to be able to have the luxury and opportunity to play these songs all these years later, when we’ve had all this growth as musicians and as people, it’s the coolest thing ever. I can’t believe that this is happening. I kiss the ground every day,” he rejoiced.
