El DeBarge has been arrested and hit with multiple charges, including drug and gun possession, after being pulled over at a gas station in Burbank, California.
According to a report from TMZ on Tuesday (January 10), the hit-and-run happened in the early hours of Sunday morning (January 8) when officers noticed expired tags on the singer’s car while passing. As they approached, they also allegedly saw an expandable metal baton in plain view in the car.
As the baton was an illegal weapon, it led to a search of the vehicle – where police also allegedly found pepper spray and “suspected drugs”. The singer should not have had a valid driver’s license either.
El DeBarge was arrested and booked with possession of a lead baton or baton, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the report, police believe the substance is heroin, but this has not yet been confirmed.
However, the “Lay With You” singer didn’t stay behind bars for long as he posted the $25,000 bond and was released. He will be back in court in March.
This is not the first arrest of the vulnerable singer in recent years. In 2018, he was arrested for aggravated vandalism after he allegedly took a wrench to someone else’s windshield during an argument.
IN 2012 DeBarge was arrested in Los Angeles for possession of narcotics with intent to sell after LAPD officers observed him participating in what appeared to be an apparent drug deal with another man near the 101 Freeway. He posted his $30,000 bond and was released, avoiding jail time in the case.
However, the singer has previously spent 13 months behind bars after his arrest in 2008 for possession of crack and drug paraphernalia. Prosecutors violated the terms of his probation for a similar arrest in 2006 for possession of a controlled substance.
