Donald Glover confirms Childish Gambino is back making new music

Donald Glover have confirmed it Childish Gambino is back in full effect.

Glover stopped to talk E! News on the red carpet at the 2022 Golden Globes on Tuesday night (January 10), where he was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series for Atlantafourth and final season.

The multi-hyphen was queried by E! host Laverne Cox about when he would release something new on the musical front, and he had some good news for his fans.

“I’m making music right now,” he said. “I love it. I’m actually working. I’m in the studio. I’ve been bringing people in – like secret people. Like working on little things. But I’ve just been doing it for fun right now. But soon something will happen, that I promise. Something will happen.”

Donald Glover has been flirting with musical retirement since June 2017, when he hinted at hanging up the stage name Childish Gambino at the Governors Ball Music Festival. He told fans, “I’ll see you on the last Gambino album.”

But he continued to make music, and the Childish Gambino album, 3.15.20arrived in 2020. Later that year he told I can destroy you creator Michaela Coel it he is not quite done with musicadding that he doesn’t think he’s achieved everything he wants in that space.

“I still don’t feel like I’m done with it [music] project,” he told Coel. “With writing, I definitely feel that on the last project and on the project I’m working on now, also musically, it’s all spiritual. It is all spiritual. A feeling of: ‘I love us. I love myself.’ I really do.”

During a visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live! in March 2022, he revealed that he has been in the studio recently.

“I make a lot of music. I really love doing it,” he said. “I’ve done a lot of it. It’s just really about how you experience it at this point.”

On the acting front, Glover is reportedly considering starring in the upcoming one Community movie. When the film was announced, he had yet to commit to the role, but now Glover is “down to clown,” according to creator Dan Harmon.

“For lack of a better word, a ball was fumbled… [Glover] is down to clown,” Harmon said of Glover’s involvement in the film. “Man, I didn’t want to think about making [the movie] without Anders.”
