Charlie’s Good Tonight: The Authorized Biography of Charlie Watts comes on Sept. 15 in the UK and Oct. 11 in the United States The book documents Watts’ nearly six decades of employment with the Stones, from their early days in London’s R&B clubs to their status as exuberant stadium rock titans. It is available pre-order through HarperCollins Publishers’ website now.
Written by author, journalist and television station Paul Sexton, who has been covering the Stones for more than 30 years, Charlie is fine tonight will contain preface from both Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, as well as a prelude to the original band manager and producer Andrew Loog Oldham. It will also include exclusive and unprecedented photos of Watts, as well as new interviews with Jagger, Richards, Ronnie Wood and numerous family members, friends and collaborators of the drummer, who died the aug. 24, 2021, at the age of 80 years.
“Our dear friend Charlie Watts was not just an amazing drummer, but a wonderful person,” the Rolling Stones said in a statement. “He was funny and generous and a man of great taste, and we miss him terribly. It’s great that his family has approved this official biography of Paul Sexton, who has been writing and broadcasting about Charlie and the band for many years.”
