BLACKPINK Detail All the Funny Callbacks in ‘Shut Down’ Music Video: Watch

BLACK ROSE SAID‘s video to Born Pink the track “Shut Down” premiered Friday alongside the release of the eight-track LP. Now dedicated Blinks get a glimpse into what it was like for members Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rosé to shoot the visuals for the track.

“Have you guys noticed?” Jisoo asks her group members — as well as the winks at home watching — in the video. “Our ‘Shut Down’ music video has inserted some of the scenes from our previous music videos to show the new one BLACK ROSE SAID. We hope you look forward to it.”

In the music video, fans noted that “Shut Down” served as both a reflection on BLACKPINK’s past eras since their 2016 debut with “Whistle” as well as a fun game for eagle-eyed viewers to decode all the little details and links to the group’s previous video releases, as well their solo and group discography. Moments from the videos “Boombayah”, “Playing With Fire”, “Kill This Love”, “Whistle” and “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” were also included in the video. (Billboard detailed all the video’s easter egg here.)

“You’ve seen this truck before, haven’t you?” Lisa tells the cameras about the rusty truck in “Shut Down,” which first appeared in the “Boombayah” video in 2016. “It was good to see it again. I shared some conversations with him.”

Rosé was then shown filming the scene where she sits on top of the globe – a callback to the group’s “Whistle” video – and claimed it was a more “adult version” of herself. Jennie next appears in the video, teasing fans with the scene where she holds a match in the black bathtub, which directly mirrors her scene in “Playing With Fire.” As for Lisa’s deck scene, she revealed that filming it in the rain was her own idea. Jisoo, on the other hand, was delighted to film her “Jisoo Jisoo Jisoo” scene, recreated from “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du.”

“Shut Down” is currently on a blazing trail – the track shot up from None. 16 to No. 1 he Billboard‘s Hot trending songs chart (dated September 24), powered by Twitter, following the release of Born Pink LP. The girl group also delivered a sizzling one performance of the track on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Monday evening.
