Billy Sheehan has Pro-Shot footage from the ‘Eat ‘Em and Smile’ Tour

Professionally shot footage of David Lee Roth perform with him Eat them and smileera band exists, and bassist Billy Sheehan says he has it.

“I think I’m the only guy with it,” the rocker revealed during an interview with We go to 11 YouTube channel (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). “They shot it pro. It’s Dave’s turn and Dave’s business, so unfortunately I can’t do anything about it. At some point I might try to get in touch with Dave, ‘Would you like to put it out?'” But I had a pro shot [footage]… I forgot how I got it. As far as I know, no one else has. I just went through it the other day and backed it up again to three other drives to make sure I didn’t lose it.”

Roth’s Eat them and smile lineup included Sheehan, guitarist Steve Vai and drummer Gregg Bissonette along with touring keyboardist Brett Tuggle. The group embarked on an extensive 1986-87 tour, performing more than 100 shows in support of Roth’s debut solo album. Fan footage from the tour has appeared on YouTube over the years, but professionally shot video has never been released.

“Back then a video camera, to sneak it into a venue [was very difficult], but somehow people did. It’s pretty amazing. I mean, they were sneaking in bottles of Jack Daniel’s and a camera wasn’t too far from a stretch during 1986 concerts there,” Sheehan surmised.

The series has not performed together since ’87, although some members have reunited at various times. A one-off reunion in 2015 in a small Los Angeles club was closed by the fire marshal before it even started.

As for whether his pro-shot footage could see the light of day, Sheehan insisted that would be Roth’s decision.

“I’m not sure if it could be out one day if Dave would be interested in doing it, but I have; it’s here for him,” noted the bassist. “If he wants it, I’ll be happy to put it on my Dropbox and send it to him [the videos that are out there] are handheld [clips]trembling with [muffled] sound. This one is – the sound is good; it’s not great. But it’s better than most handheld camera stuff.”
