V/H/S/99: new sequel in the V/H/S series coming to Shudder in October!

V/H/S/94 was a big hit too Shake streaming service when it was released last year, so it was inevitable that there would be another entry in the found footage W/H/S horror anthology franchise. We just didn’t expect it to come so soon. Shudder has announced that the latest sequel, W/H/S/99has already been filmed and is set to be released through their streaming service (in North America, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand) on Thursday, 20 Octoberth!

Shudder’s press release reveals that the story segments that make up W/H/S/99 was directed by Maggie Levin (Into The Dark: My Valentine), Johannes Roberts (Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City), Flying Lotus (Cousin), Tyler MacIntyre (Tragedy girls), and Joseph & Vanessa Winter (Dead stream).

W/H/S/99 return to the last analog punk rock days of VHS as they take a giant leap forward into the hellish new millennium. IN W/H/S/99a thirsty teenager’s home video leads to a series of horrifying revelations.

Shudder’s Craig Engler provided the following statement:

V/H/S/94 sets a new bar for what is already a great film franchise, with some of the best horror anthology segments in recent memory from an incredible array of filmmakers. We knew right away that we wanted to continue the series and what the producers have come up with W/H/S/99 will be the biggest and best film yet in the series, and we can’t wait for Shudder members to see it.”

Producer Josh Goldbloom added:

The last year of the 90s was a perfect playground for us. DVDs surpassed VHS, Blair witch took the world by storm and Y2K scares created a sense of apocalyptic dread. Add to that 6 of the most creative genre filmmakers in the world and we’re sure this is the biggest, baddest and wildest W/H/S yet!”

And executive producer Michael Schreiber said,

Fans of our franchise are going to love W/H/S/99. Each new film in the series is the chance to showcase a different ensemble of talented and diverse filmmakers, and I’m extremely proud of the work that W/H/S99‘s filmmakers have stepped in to bring their terrifying visions to life.”

Goldbloom produced W/H/S/99 to Cinepocalypse. The film was also produced by Brad Miska for Bloody Disgusting, David Bruckner, filmmaker collective Radio Silence and James Harris. It was produced by Schreiber and Adam Boorstin for Studio71.
