Bass Reeves has been in the news lately as David Oyelowo is set to play the legendary lawyer in 1883: Basses Reeves’ storya spinoff of Yellowstone franchise. But it’s not the only Bass Reeves project in the works. Deadline has reported that Morgan Freeman is developing his own Bass Reeves series for Amazon, something he has been considering for almost thirty years.

With the title Twin Territoriesthe series follows “America’s No. 1 lawyer, as he and the brave Irishman Chauncey Lee face the almost impossible task of imposing the rule of law in the most dangerous place on earth, and fight with bandits who are so daring that they post their own wanted posters; thriving native cultures pushed to the brink; and hordes of illegal settlers with nothing to lose, in a titanic battle for the future of a state and a nation.“The series will too”examine the methods Reeves used to bring justice to the Indian territories and the crucial role he played in the birth of the state of Oklahoma.“Morgan Freeman has spent decades exploring history and later teamed up with Ben Watkins (God’s hand) and Malcolm Spellman (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), who had developed their own bid for the legend of Bass Reeves. Freeman believes in that Twin Territories has the potential to be a “Game changer“With its depiction of historical events.

I grew up in movies watching everything, especially westerns, and one of the things that really struck me was the fact that if you were black in one of those westerns, you better be a comedian. You better be funny. There was none [Black] heroes, and it’s not American history at all, so here’s a chance to redo it, to correct some of the cracks in history.

When Morgan Freeman first began exploring the series for decades, he thought he would play Bass Reeves, but it seems there is still a role for him to play in Twin Territories. “We have not told him all the details of this role, so some of this is a surprise to him,“Ben Watkins said,”but we have created a fantastic role for him, which is a kind of connection between the pre-civil war and the post-civil war. He is a mentor figure for the one who plays Bass Reeves.“Regarding Yellowstone The Bass Reeves series tells Watkins that there is plenty of room for more stories. “I think we all agree that Bass Reeves was a hero who deserves all the stories to be told, said Watkins. “There should already be a hundred versions of Bass Reeves out, and we’ve never looked at other projects out there as a bad thing. We think he is a historical figure who deserves that kind of recognition across the board, but we also know that our particular way of telling it will be very authentic and very much rooted in the black American experience. So we feel it has a special place.
