The new ‘True Detective’ cast is Jodie Foster and Kali Reis

Real detective never completely recaptured the magic (not to mention the huge hype) in its first season HBO, the one with Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, who basically launched McConaissance. The ensuing seasons got a lot of pressure, but they did not generate the same level of conversation or assessments.

But each Real detective is its own separate story, which means new viewers can come in at any time. So maybe they will be fascinated by this fourth season’s cast: Jodie Foster and Kali Reisthe professional boxer and actress.

This new season also gets a new subtitle. Now, it is True Detective: Night Country. HBO announced today that they had officially booked a season of Natlandand revealed the synopsis of the show, which will be filmed in Iceland:

As the long winter night falls on Ennis, Alaska, the six men who run the Tsalal Arctic Research Station disappear without a trace. To resolve the matter, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry within them and dig into the haunted truths buried beneath the eternal ice.

While Real detective creator Nic Pizzolatto was the lead writer on the first three seasons of the show. Natland on the other hand comes from writer / director / showrunner Issa López. Her previous work includes the Spanish-language horror film Tigers are not afraid.

Between the showrunner and the cast, it’s a decidedly more woman – oriented spin on Real detective concept. Whether it regains the popularity of the first season is still unknown. But it’s definitely a cool concept for a murder mystery.

(Oh yep, drunk does not intentional.)
