Swallowed trailer: Jena Malone, Mark Patton body horror film gets February release date

Carter Smith’s Swallowed, starring Jena Malone and Mark Patton, is set to receive a VOD and digital release in February

Director Carter Smith and actress Jena Malone have reunited, thirteen years after working together on Smith’s directorial debut. The ruins (see it HERE), on a new horror film called Swallowed – a project Smith has described as a “slimy wild queer horror nightmare of a movie”. (Read our review HERE.) We’ve been following the development of Swallowed for a year and a half, and now we have a very good update to share: the film is set to receive a VOD and digital release on February 14th! Along with the release date news comes the reveal of a new trailer, which can be seen in the embed above.

Swallowed has the following synopsis: After a drug run goes awry, two childhood friends must survive a terrifying night in an underworld of drugs, insects and obscene intimacy in this queer horror nightmare.

Malone is joined by the cast Mark Patton (A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge), Cooper Koch (Power Book II: Ghost), Roe Pacheco (Cursed Pi), and newcomers Michael Shawn Curtis and Jose Colon. Colon was Smith’s muse when it came to writing Swallowed. Smith had taken pictures of him for his website AlltheDeadBoys.com, and while looking at the pictures, a character named Dom came to mind. Dom is the character Jose plays Swallowed.

This was a micro-budget production shot in Smith’s home state of Maine, with a crew of 8 and a filming schedule of 16 days. Smith told The Hollywood ReporterSwallowed is the movie I wish I’d had as a horror-loving queer growing up in rural Maine—with all the blood, sweat, and tears of a classic midnight flick.

Although it’s great Swallowed is making its way out into the world, this news coincides with some scary news about Patton. His manager recently announced that Patton’s health has “taken a drastic turn for the worse” and he is currently driving a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for his medical treatment. We hope that his health will soon improve and that he will be in much better shape in time Swallowed is released.

I look forward to checking it out Swallowed soon. Are you going to see the movie in February? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
