Super Mario Bros .: Chris Pratt says his Mario voice is unlike anything you’ve heard in the franchise

It is safe to say that the announcement that Chris Pratt would express the iconic plumber in the animated Super Marios Bros. the film continues to be divisive. We have not heard anything about Pratt’s performance in the film, but the actor told it Variety that his voice for the character will be unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario franchise before.

I worked really closely with the instructors and tried a few things and landed on something that I am really proud of and can’t wait for people to see and hear. It’s an animated voiceover tale. It’s not a live-action movie. I’m not going to wear a plumber suit all over. I give a voice to an animated character and it is updated and unlike anything you have heard in the Mario world before.

Changing the voice to such an iconic character seems like a bad idea, but since we do not know the context of the story, I will wait before making any judgment. That Super Mario Bros. the film also features Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad and more. The film is coming to cinemas April 7, 2023.
