SPOILERS to Stranger Things 4 finals. Much like Kate Bushs Runs up that hill was prominent in the first volume of the fourth season of Stranger Thingsthe latest finale used the Master of Puppets by Metallica with great effect.
That Stranger Things finale, Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) and Dustin (Matarazzo Street) used as bait in Upside-Down to distract Vecna’s demo bats and give Nancy (Natalia Dyer), Steve (Joe Keery) and Robin (Maya Hawke) enough time to to sneak into the villain’s cave. The scene found Eddie taking out his guitar and blowing up the Master of Puppets to help save the day. Metallica took it Instagram to respond to the use of their iconic song on Stranger Things.
The way The Duffer Brothers have incorporated music into Stranger Things has always been the next level, so we were overwhelmed that they not only included “Master of Puppets” in the show, but having such a crucial scene built around it . We were all excited to see the final result and when we did, we were completely blown away … it’s so extremely well done, so much so that some people were able to guess the song just by watching some few seconds of Joseph Quinn’s hands in the trailer !! How wild is that fat?
Metallica continued, “It’s an incredible honor to be such a big part of Eddie’s journey and once again to be the company of all the other amazing artists who are on the show.Said Joseph Quinn Weekly entertainment that while playing guitar, he played along with a backing track during the stage. “I do not want to mess with what they already have, but it was very useful to be able to play together in character, said Quinn. “It’s a pretty teenage fantasy to be a rock star, isn ‘t it? I felt like one for one night. It was great to have the Gate up there with me. They really screwed up when they played ‘Master of Puppets’ and the whole crew was there.“
