Squid Game positively exploded in popularity upon release last year. Naturally, it didn’t take long for Netflix to capitalize on its success by ordering one Play octopus spin-off from the reality show series where real players will compete for their chance to win $4.56 million. Fan reaction was mixed as the reality series seems to completely miss the point of the original drama, but Play octopus said creator Hwang Dong-hyuk Weekly entertainment that it’s all in fun and not to be taken too seriously.
Hwang Dong-hyuk said that he is aware that some fans have concerns about Play octopus reality series. “I think that even though our show carries a pretty heavy message, and I know there are some concerns about taking that message and making it into a reality show with a cash prize, but I feel like when you take things because seriously, this is really not the best way to go for the entertainment industry,he said. “It doesn’t really set a precedent. So I would say that renderings of such endeavors will bring new meaning to the industry and I hope this will be a great new direction for the industry in general.“Hwang added that he”actually met with the creator yesterday and they had a lot of questions for me. What I hope is that they will carry forward my vision and intent as much as possible for the show.“
Despite any misgivings from fans, I have no doubt that most will turn out to see it Play octopus reality series spin-off when it is released, if only out of morbid curiosity. Hwang Dong-hyuk recently went home Emmy Awards for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, with series star Lee Jung-jae also winning the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. As for the second season of Play octopusteased Hwang earlier this year that it promises to be better than he expected. “I have a fixed disposition,“He said. “I have a full season two episode treatment with new games and new characters. I like it. I think it is good. It is better than what I expected.“
