Long live Queen Mia Thermopolis! THR has reported that Disney has tapped Aadrita Mukerji (Super girl) to write the script to The Princess Diaries 3. It’s been nearly two decades since the last installment of the Anne Hathaway-led franchise, but sources tell THR that this will be a sequel rather than a reboot.
Based on the novel by Meg Cabot, The Princess Diaries starring Anne Hathaway as Mia Thermopolis, an American teenager who discovers that she is the heir to the throne of the kingdom of Genovia. Also starring Julie Andrews as Mia’s grandmother and the Queen Regent of Genovia, the film was an unexpected success and was followed by Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement three years later. It is not yet known if Anne Hathaway will return The Princess Diaries 3but we may not know until she takes a look at the script.
Anne Hathaway recently mentioned the possibility of Princess diaries 3 while talking to Entertainment tonight last month. “I would more than entertain it, I draw for it,” Hathaway shared. “If there’s any way to get Julie Andrews in, I think we’d make it work. We would go to where she was and put a green screen behind her and just make it happen.“The first two films were directed by Garry Marshall, who was also looking to develop a third before him death in 2016, the project was effectively shelved. Should this latest attempt come to fruition, it would be great to see the kingdom of Genovia once more, especially if Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews (and Héctor Elizondo!) are able to return.
