A little background on Blumhouse: Founded in 2000 by producer Jason Blum to finance micro-budgeted productions, giving filmmakers full control over their films. The company would have its first massive hit in 2009 with Paranormal activity which would gross close to $200 million on a $15,000 budget (including an additional $215,000 after Paramount bought the film in 2007). That money would help make a name for the company, which would go on to produce nearly 200 film and television projects in the years since, including Oscar nominations for Best Picture for films such as Whiplash, Black Klansman and Go out as well as Emmy wins for TV productions such as The normal heart and The Jinx: The Life and Death of Robert Thirsty.
