Back in April, AMC officially announced that they are moving forward with a new series set in the sci-fi thriller world Orphan Black. This spinoff (or offshoot, whichever you prefer) is called Orphan Black: Echoes, and it has now found its way! While Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany is set to star in the upcoming Marvel series She-Hulk: Lawyer, TVLine reports it Orphan Black: Echoes will star Marvel alum Krysten Ritter, who previously starred in Jessica Jones.
Ritter will also executive produce Orphan Black: Echoes along with creator/showrunner Anna Fishko, original series co-creator/director John Fawcett and Boat Rockers David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, Katie O’Connell Marsh, Nick Nantell and Kerry Appleyard.
The first season of Orphan Black: Echoes will consist of ten sections. Set in the near future, the show will “explore the scientific manipulation of human existence”. It follows
a group of women as they weave into each other’s lives and embark on an exciting journey, unraveling the mystery of their identity and revealing a heartbreaking story of love and betrayal.
The show is expected to premiere on AMC and the AMC+ streaming service sometime in 2023.
Orphan Black ran for five seasons on BBC America. Maslany starred as Sarah, “an outsider and orphan whose life changes dramatically after witnessing the suicide of a woman who looks like her. Sarah takes on her identity, her boyfriend and her bank account. But instead of solving her problems, the clever chameleon is thrown headlong into a kaleidoscopic mystery. She makes the staggering discovery that she and the dead woman are clones… but are they the only ones? Sarah quickly finds herself in the middle of a deadly conspiracy and must run to find answers to who she is and how many others are like her.” (Thanks to Fandom.com for synopsis.) Over the course of the series, Maslany ended up playing fourteen different clones.
