Orphan Black: Echoes TV series casts Keeley Hawes alongside Krysten Ritter

Keeley Hawes from Bodyguard and Line of Duty have signed on to join previously announced cast members Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Amanda Fix (Cracked diamonds), and Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) in the cast of Orphan Black: Echoesa new series set in the sci-fi thriller world Orphan Black. Deadline reports that Hawes takes on the role of “an insightful but sensitive scientist who finds herself at odds with her own moral code when circumstances force her to make an unthinkable choice.”

The first season of Orphan Black: Echoes will consist of ten sections. Set in the near future, the show will “explore the scientific manipulation of human existence”. It follows

a group of women as they weave into each other’s lives and embark on an exciting journey, uncovering the mystery of their identity and uncovering a heartbreaking story of love and betrayal.

While we don’t have details on Ritter’s character, it has been said that Fix will play Jules, “a salty teenager trying to find herself. The recently adopted daughter of wealthy parents, Jules is tough as nails, a little ruthless, but brutally smart.” Jogia takes on the role of “Lucy’s (Ritter) boyfriend Jack, a soft-spoken ex-army doctor and single father who has devoted his life to raising his daughter and discovers that the woman he loves has an unbelievable secret.”

Orphan Black: Echoes is expected to premiere on AMC and the AMC+ streaming service sometime in 2023.

Ritter is executive producer Orphan Black: Echoes along with creator/showrunner Anna Fishko, original series co-creator/director John Fawcett and Boat Rockers David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, Katie O’Connell Marsh, Nick Nantell and Kerry Appleyard.

Orphan Black ran for five seasons on BBC America. Tatiana Maslanynow the star of the Marvel/Disney+ series She-Hulk: Lawyer, starring Sarah, “an outsider and orphan whose life changes dramatically after witnessing the suicide of a woman who looks like her. Sarah takes on her identity, her boyfriend and her bank account. But instead of solving her problems, the clever chameleon is thrown headlong into a kaleidoscopic mystery. She makes the staggering discovery that she and the dead woman are clones… but are they the only ones? Sarah quickly finds herself in the middle of a deadly conspiracy and must run to find answers to who she is and how many others are like her.” (Thanks to Fandom.com for synopsis.) Over the course of the series, Maslany ended up playing fourteen different clones.

In addition to the projects listed above, Keeley Hawes’ credits include The Avengers (1998), MI-5that Time Heist episode of Doctor Who, High-rise, The Missing, Traitors, Misbehaviour, Midwich Cuckoos, and Ben Wheatley’s version of Rebecca. She has also voiced Lara Croft for several Tomb Raider computer games.
