It’s a great time to be a genre fan with a 4K UHD collection, because there’s been a steady stream of “classic horror coming to 4K UHD!” recent announcements. The one I’m most excited to hear about today: Criterion will be give George A. Romeroclassic from 1968 Night of the Living Dead a 4K UHD release on October 4th – and copies can be pre-ordered at THIS LINK!
Directed by Romero from a script he wrote with John A. Russo, Night of the Living Dead has the following synopsis:
A disparate group of individuals seek refuge in an abandoned house as corpses begin to leave the cemetery in search of fresh human corpses to devour. Pragmatic Ben does his best to control the situation, but as the reanimated bodies surround the house, the other survivors begin to panic. As all semblance of order in the group begins to disappear, the zombies begin to find their way inside – and one by one, the living humans fall prey to the dead.
The film stars Duane Jones, Judith O’Dea, Marilyn Eastman, Karl Hardman, Judith Ridley, Keith Wayne, Kyra Schon, Bill Hinzman, George Kosana, Russell Streiner and Bill “Chilly Billy” Cardille.

This is not the only cool thing Night of the Living Dead news we’ve reported on recently. Just a few weeks ago, we heard the special effects artist Greg Nicotero – who worked with Romero on several different projects and has directed several episodes of The Walking Dead – plans to direct a film about the making of Night of the Living Dead!
