We already know that Netflix forked over big money for two Knives out sequels, but Rian Johnson doesn’t necessarily want to stop at three Benoit Blanc mysteries.
With Glass onion: A Knives Out Mystery set to hit select theaters later this month, Rian Johnson said Total movie that he might just dive right into the third movie. “I had been thinking for a while that maybe I should do something else first,Johnson said. “But the God’s honest truth is that I had so much fun making this one, and the creative challenge of coming up with a third film that’s completely different from both this one and the first—right now, that’s the most interesting creative challenge for me. So I might just dive in and see what we come up with.Johnson added that as long as Daniel Craig and himself are still having fun, there’s no reason they won’t do more Knives out successors.
As long as the two of us are still having fun, and as long as we can continue to do these really new experiences every time and find new ways to challenge ourselves… In the second we feel like we’re repeating ourselves, or just turning the crank on a machine, then we stop. Because for me, the whole idea of this whole series is the same way Agatha Christie did it with her books – we do something new and surprising every time.
“Benoit Blanc returns to peel back the layers in a new Rian Johnson whodunit,” reads the official synopsis for Glass onion: A Knives Out Mystery. “This fresh adventure finds the intrepid detective at a lavish private estate on a Greek island, but how and why he got there is only the first of many mysteries. Blanc soon meets a distinctly disparate group of friends who gather at the invitation of billionaire Miles Bron for their annual reunion. Among those on the guest list are Miles’ former business partner Andi Brand, current Connecticut Governor Claire Debella, pioneering scientist Lionel Toussaint, fashion designer and former model Birdie Jay and her conscientious assistant Peg, and influencer Duke Cody and his sidekick boyfriend Whiskey. . As in all the best murder mysteries, each character harbors their own secrets, lies and motives. When someone turns up dead, everyone is a suspect.” In addition to Daniel Craig, Glass onion: A Knives Out Mystery features an all-star cast that includes Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline with Kate Hudson and Dave Bautista.
Whose Glass onion is just as fun as the first movie, I would definitely be down for more Knives out successors. What about you?
