Well, not all DC comics the film is canceled anyway.
Warner Bros. announced today, amid a flurry of publicity about the company’s dismissal of its former up-and-comer Batgirl film for which it had chosen an official release date Joker: Folie à Deuxthe upcoming sequel to its hugely successful and award-winning Joker film directed by Todd Phillips and participates Joaquin Phoenix as title character.
Little is known about the film so far, other than the return of Phillips as director and writer and Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker. The latest reports about the film claimed that Lady Gaga was in talks to join the film’s cast as Harley Quinn, the Joker’s on-again-off-again girlfriend. The same reports also claimed that Joker 2 could actually be a musical. (That would certainly make a big reason why you’d want Gaga in the movie.)
The film’s subtitle is a reference to a medical condition in which “an identical or similar mental disorder affects two or more individuals, usually members of the same family.” If the Joker is involved, the only character he would canonically share a mental disorder with would be Harley Quinn. There have also been some chat that Willem Dafoe may also be in the sequel, possibly in the role of a Joker copycat.
The first film, an alternate origin story for Batman’s most famous villain, grossed an astonishing $1 billion worldwide and ended up winning Academy Awards for Phoenix and composer Hildur Guðnadóttir.
Joker: Folie à Deux opens in theaters on October 4, 2024 – exactly five years to the day the original Joker was released.
