Jimmy Kimmel has given a formal apology to Quinta Brunson for little he appeared in 2022 The Emmys last weekend. It wasn’t the craziest thing to happen at an awards show in recent memory, but many people still thought the joke was in bad taste. Kimmel and Will Arnett presented the award for Best Writing in a Comedy Series.
Arnett pulled Kimmel on stage while claiming he had too many margaritas after losing in his own category earlier in the evening. As the winner (Brunson) was announced and the award was presented to her, Kimmel continued his part and lay on the stage as if unconscious. As a result, Brunson had to step over him and at one point even told him to wake up. All the while, her 45-second speech clock was ticking, which meant she didn’t get the proper time to thank.
People quickly noticed and thought it was a disrespectful gesture towards Brunson. Apparently, Brunson wasn’t too upset about it all, but people on social media and some news sources were. Last night, on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel issued a formal apology to Brunson. He wrote it all off as a “stupid comedy” and followed up by saying:
I’m actually sorry I did. And the last thing I ever wanted to do was make you sad because I think about you so much. And I think you know it – I hope you know it.
She accepted the apology and said, “It’s very kind of you to say I had a great evening.”
A little earlier in the show, Brunson hit Jimmy with a little bit of payback by peeking in during his opening monologue to thank some people she didn’t have time to thank earlier. She turned to him and said, “You know how when you win an Emmy you only have 45 seconds to give an acceptance speech, which isn’t that much time? And then you get less time because someone makes a stupid comedy that goes on a little too long.”
