Indiana Jones 5 photo gives us our first look at Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Helena

A new one Indiana Jones 5 picture focusing on Phoebe Waller-Bridge‘s Helena walks around and gives us the best view of Indy’s goddaughter that we’ve had yet. According to the film’s director, James Mangold, Helena is a mysterious woman modeled after early 20th century femme fatales.

Indiana Jones 5, set in 1969 during the height of the space race, finds Indy uncovering Nazi sympathizers planted in America’s space program. Although Waller-Bridge’s Helena remains a mystery, we’ve learned she’ll play a significant role in the upcoming adventure, including several of the film’s intense action sequences and heightened moments of derring-do.

According to empirethe opening of Indiana Jones 5 has an outdated Harrison Ford. “I wanted the chance to dive into this kind of full-on George-and-Steven vintage image and give the audience an adrenaline rush,” Mangold explained. Mangold has revealed that the new adventure aims to recapture the spirit of the original film with a final crusade flashback at the beginning, except this time it will flashback to Raiders-era Indy, complete with an aging Harrison Ford. So for the opening sequence, Indy finds himself in a castle occupied by Nazis, set in 1944. “And then we drop out and you find yourself in 1969. So the audience doesn’t experience the shift between the ’40s and the ’60s as an intellectual concept, but literally experiences the great spirit of the early days… and then the beginning of now.”

How significant do you think Helena will be for the future Indiana Jones franchise? Is she next in line to wear the fedora? Is she secretly a Nazi sympathizer? Must Indy thwart his own goddaughter’s evil plan? With much of the plot remaining a mystery, who’s to say? No matter how things shake out, Indiana Jones 5 is destined to be a smash at the box office when the film opens in theaters on 30 June 2023.
