House of the Dragon: Matt Smith thinks he has “a little too much” sex in Game of Thrones prequel

For better or worse, Game of Thrones quickly made waves with its graphic sexual content and nudity. During its eight seasons, the HBO series came under fire for its sexual violence against women. When House of the Dragon was announced, it was thought that the prequel series might tone down the gender, but it looks like that’s not the case.

While talking to Rolling stones, House of the Dragon star Matt Smith hinted that there is plenty of sex to be had in the series, perhaps even too much.

You find yourself asking, ‘Do we need it another sex scene?’ And they say: ‘Yes, we do.’ I think you have to ask yourself, ‘What are you doing? Do you represent the books, or do you dilute the books to represent time [we’re living in]?’ And I actually think it’s your job to represent the books truthfully and honestly as they were written.

When asked if his character, Prince Daemon Targaryen, had his share of sex scenes in the House of the Dragonreplied Matt Smith with a laugh, “Yes – a bit too much if you ask me.” As for his character, Smith described Daemon as “Kind of an outsider. He’s not black and white, there are shades of gray with him, which is what interests me about him. And his relationship with his brother is really interesting. It was a pleasure to work with Paddy Considine, who I have admired for so long, and Rhys Ifans.“While House of the Dragon Can contain “a little too much” told sex, writer and executive producer Sarah Hess Vanity Fair that sexual violence will not be part of it. “I would like to clarify that we do not depict sexual violence in the show,Hess said. “We deal with one instance off screen, instead showing the aftermath and impact of the victim and mother of the perpetrator.

House of the Dragon takes place hundreds of years before the original series and is based on George RR Martin’s Fire & Blooda Targaryen history book which tells the story of House Targaryen starting with “Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and [going on] to tell the story of the generations of Targaryens who fought to keep the throne, right up to the civil war known as the Dance of Dragons that almost tore their dynasty apart.House of the Dragon will debut on HBO on August 21.
