The next ‘Ghostbusters’ movie is coming in 2023

Just a few weeks ago, Sony announced their plan to continue Ghostbusters franchise with a new film from the same creative team that brought us Ghostbusters: Afterlife, author / director Jason Reitman and co-author Gil Kenan. This will be the fourth film in Ghostbusters chronology, the following Ghostbusters,, Ghostbusters IIand last year The afterlife. (The second film in the series, also with the title Ghostbusters or sometimes referred to as Ghostbusters: Answer the callis a restart set in an alternate timeline from the others.)

Now Sony has committed to a release date for the film and it is not far off. They expect this fourth (or fifth, depending on how you count these things) to open in theaters on December 20, 2023.

Although there is no official plot synopsis or casting news for the film yet, it is generally expected that the film will build on the post-credit scene from Ghostbusters: Afterlife, where Winston Zeddemore reveals that he is now a hugely wealthy businessman, and he decides to relaunch Ghostbusters back at their old firehouse in Lower Manhattan. After moving in again, the camera goes down into the building’s basement, where it discovers that Ghostbusters’ old ghost containment unit is still full of ghosts.

(Oops! Man, that idiot from the EPA might have a point with these guys all the time.)

The afterlife certainly left a place where this next movie can be resumed. Of course, you should be a fan of the last movie to want to see what happens nextespecially since it is from the same central filmmakers who made The afterlife. That film at least brought back the surviving original cast. One has to imagine that if they can get them back again, it will at least bring hardcore Ghostbusters fans back to the theater.
