The bear‘s Jeremy Allen White goes from the kitchen to an institute that aims to calculate the depth of one person’s love for another in Apple original movies Fingernails. The English-language feature comes from Christos Nikou, the award-winning filmmaker behind the 2020s Apples and several other projects.
Fingernails is a science-fiction love story about an institution that develops a test to measure the amount of love between couples. Is their love real? Does a pattern of constant compromise weaken their bond over time? The Institute wants couples to succeed, even if keeping the fire burning is more complex than you might think. In the film, Anna (Buckley) begins working at the institute as an assistant to Trevor (Ahmed), an enigmatic director. Meanwhile, White plays Ryan, Anna’s longtime partner in a certified love affair.
Nikou directs Fingernails from a screenplay he co-wrote with Stavros Raptis and Sam Steiner.
As for White, the Shameless alum is in high demand after turning in an impressive performance in the first season of Hulu’s The bear. If you haven’t seen The bearit’s like watching Uncut gems in a kitchen where tempers fly through the air faster than it takes me to whip up a batch of my award-winning tacos. White also stars alongside Zac Efron and Harris Dickinson A24‘s The Iron Clawwhich focuses on wrestling siblings the Von Erichs. The Iron Claw will require White, Efron and Dickinson to dig deep and deliver emotional performances as troubled family members working within an industry that can quickly destroy them.
What do you think of the concept for Fingernails? Can science measure love? Do you think you and your partner would pass a series of tests that determine your affection for each other? Or would all the things you’ve left unsaid threaten the foundation of your bond? If you’re up for it, let us know in the comments.
