Chris Hemsworth says the Thor franchise needs to be reinvented again if it’s to move forward

If you look back to the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I doubt many of you could have guessed that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) would have more solo movies than any of the other Avengers. That Thor franchise has gone through a few reinventions over the years, but if it continues, Chris Hemsworth believes another major change is needed.

While chatting with Josh Horowitz on Happy Sad Confused podcast, Chris Hemsworth seems aware that the audience thought so Thor: Love and Thunder was perhaps a little too comical. “If you look at Thor 1 and 2, they were pretty similar. Ragnarok and Love and Thunder are similar. I think it’s about reinventing it,Hemsworth said. “I’ve had such a unique opportunity with Infinity War and Endgame to do very drastic things with the character. I enjoy it, I like to keep people on their toes. It keeps me on my toes. It keeps me invested. As Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder changed the tone yet again, the actor doesn’t want to keep doing the same thing. “I’ve said it before, but when it gets too familiar, I think there’s a risk of getting lazy because I know what I’m doing,Hemsworth said. “I don’t know if I’m even invited back, but if I were, I think it would have to be a drastically different version in tone, everything, just for my own sanity [Laughs]. Thor lost his mind in the last one. He has to find out now.

As Chris Hemsworth mentioned, he doesn’t even know if he’ll return as Thor again, but the actor did recently saying that he wants to give the character a satisfying conclusion. “I feel like we should probably close the book if I ever did it again, you know what I mean?Hemsworth said. “I feel that probably warrants it. I feel like it would probably be the finale, but it’s not based on anything anyone has told me or any kind of plans. You have this birth of a hero, a hero’s journey, then a hero’s death, and I don’t know—am I at that stage? Who knows?

The latest Thor the sequel found the God of Thunder on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. His short-lived retirement is interrupted by a galactic assassin known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extermination of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably uses his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as Mighty Thor. Together, they embark on a harrowing cosmic adventure to unravel the mystery of God Butcher’s revenge and stop him before it’s too late. Thor: Love and Thunder is available at Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD and is also streaming on Disney+.
