Bullet Train: What were you thinking?

David Leitch rarely lets us down when it comes to creative, hard-hitting action, and he’s back on stage with Bullet train. The action from Deadpool 2 director now plays in theaters after earnings 4.6 million dollars from the Thursday premiere.

Based on the book by Kotaro Isaka, Bullet train stars Brad Pitt as Ladybug, a down-on-his-luck assassin determined to do her job peacefully after one too many gigs go off the rails. Fate may have other plans, however, as Ladybug’s latest mission puts her on a collision course with deadly adversaries from around the globe—all with connected yet conflicting goals—on the world’s fastest train. In addition to Brad Pitt, the film boasts quite an eclectic cast, including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Joey King, Brian Tyree Henry, Andrew Koji, Hiroyuki Sanada, Michael Shannon, Benito A. Martínez Ocasio, Zazie Beetz, Logan Lerman, Sandra Bullock, and more.

The film is currently sitting at 55% on Rotten tomatoes, but our own Chris Bumbray was one of those who had a lot of fun with the film. “Bullet train is how it would be if you took Knives out, Murder on the Orient Express, John Wick and Rumble in Bronx and throw them in a blender,Bumbray wrote in his review. “It’s a completely over-the-top action flick, but with very little tentpole film before October, it might be our last good chance for a burst of big-screen action we’ll see some. It is superior to the last one Gray man because it focuses on character, albeit with heavy doses of humor that might turn off more traditional action fans. If you can take it as a romp, it’s a total blast, with some great cameos. You can check out the rest of Chris Bumbray’s review right here.
