Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley: Kevin Bacon joins the cast of the fourth film in the Eddie Murphy franchise

Eddie Murphy is currently filming the newest episode of the movie Beverly Hills Cop franchise. It has also recently been revealed that series regulars Judge Reinhold and John Ashton will return to reprise their roles as Officers Rosewood and Taggart, Paul Reiser will return as Jeffery Friedman, as will Bronson Pinchot return as the delightfully goofy Serge. The OG cast is joined by new additions Joseph Gordon Levitt and Taylor Paige.

The fourth film in the series, titled Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley (apparently based on Top Gun: Maverickwhich is also produced by the film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer), has now added fellow 80s icon Kevin Bacon to the cast according to Deadline. It has not yet been announced what role Bacon will play in the film. The plot as a whole is yet to be revealed, but the odds look like he could play the film’s villain.

Production to Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley had already begun, and this chapter of the series is helmed by first-time feature director Mark Malloy. Malloy will join Martin Brest, Tony Scott and John Landis as directing alums for the series. The film was written by Will Beall whose credits include Gangster Squad, Aquamanand Training day TV series. Jerry Bruckheimer had produced the first two films with his former partner, the late Don Simpson, but did not return for the third film in the franchise.

The series had gone from Paramount to Netflix back in 2019 and will likely be released through the service along with limited theatrical dates. No release date has been set yet. This will follow Eddie Murphy’s previous Netflix hit, the Rudy Ray Moore biopic Dolemite is my nameand the second extended Murphy sequel Coming 2 Americareleased by Paramount on Amazon Prime.
