Adam Sandler teases the next Safdie Brothers film

Adam Sandler received the highest praise of his career when he starred in the Safdie Brothers’ Uncut gems. With another couple race between the actors and the directors on the waySandler teases what goes into Josh and Benny’s process.

During an interview at The Hollywood Reporter’s Prices Chatter podcastAdam Sandler opened up about his process working with the Safdie Brothers and how even he can’t keep up with their writing method. “They’ve been writing this movie we were going to do together for a couple of years. They’re just writing hundreds and hundreds of pages. I’ll read them and I’ll be like, ‘I like the part when this…’ And they’ll say, ‘Oh, that’s not in it anymore. We did a completely different thing. We’re sending you a new draft.'”

Adam Sandler went on to say that the Safdie Brothers actively avoid traditional screenwriting structures and page counts. “They just don’t stop writing and thinking and coming from every angle they can, and this movie we’re going to make is pretty amazing. The first draft of the new one was 340 pages! It was insane, and it was fantastic.” Since one page of a script traditionally comes out to one minute of screen time, this would mean that the first draft would have made a film running over five and a half hours. Might as well go with a limited Netflix series at that point.

While Adam Sandler was the closest he would come to Oscar recognition at the time, he did not receive an Oscar nomination for the Safdie Brothers’ Uncut gemsthat’s how we got it It’s Halloween-it could happen for his latest movie, Congestion.
