Last year, we heard that Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars) would star in the erotic “pandemic slasher” 18 and over. Now a trailer for the film has arrived online – you can check it out in the embed above – and with it comes the news that 18 and over released on Friday, August 5Th. Like an NFT!
Variety reports it
the producers are giving an exclusive two-month streaming window to fans who purchase one of 10,000 limited-edition NFTs featuring character art based on the film. The price of admission? The NFTs will go on sale for $263 each on August 5 – which, if they all sell out, would work out to a total haul of $2.63 million. After that, Aug. 12, each NFT owner will be able to view the film’s “collector’s cut” for a two-month period via a private link.
To be fair, producers Hercules Film Fund and Rhea Films say that “long-term holders” of the NFTs will receive perks beyond early access streaming, including exclusive access to the collector community and virtual hangouts with the film’s talent and director. In addition, NFT owners will receive “rewards in the form of a discount tied to success in the traditional distribution market,” according to the companies. More info about the film and NFT drop is available at this link.
If you’re not into NFTs, it’s already been confirmed that a “theatrical cut” of 18 and over will receive a traditional release sometime later.
18 and over stars and was produced by Benson, who is also credited with creating the project with writer/director Jimmy Giannopolous and co-writer Diomedes Raul Bermudez. Benson takes on the role of
Vicky, who is looking for an escape after going through a breakup. While in a remote cabin, she models lingerie for her followers on an adults-only live streaming website (called 18 & Over) – before the power goes out… and she’s terrorized by a masked, mace-wielding killer.
Benson is joined in the cast by Jon Foster, Jake Weary, Sky Ferreira, Luis Guzman, Winnie Harlow, G Eazy, Duke Nicholson, A$AP Nast, John Robinson, Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson.
18 and over was also produced by Purpose Films’ Bermudez and Artemis Pictures’ Siena Oberman, plus Cassius Corrigan. Jamin O’Brien is executive producer.
By being issued as an NFT, 18 and over follows in the footsteps of Kevin Smith’s anthology horror film Killroy was here, which was released as an NFT last month. Are you a fan of NFTs?
