According to a recent exclusive report from Empire MagazineBrendan Cowell’s Mick Scoresby reappears in Avatar 3as will the Payakan—the Tulkun being who plays a large part in the The Way of the Water.
IN Avatar: The Way of Water, one of the major plot points of the film comes when one of Jake Sully’s sons, Lo’ak, befriends the Payakan the Tulkun – the whale-like creatures – and bonds with the creature. Payakan plays such a big role in the film that he even has his own kind of nemesis – Mick Scoresby, a hunter who makes money by selling the brain fluid of the Tulkun and kills them to access it.
By the exit of The Way of the Water, Payakan and Scoresby have a showdown in which Payakan apparently kills Scoresby by ripping off his arm, leaving him washed up and lost in the sea. Despite the seemingly fatal ending for Scoresby, producer Jon Landau has said that not only will Payakan and Lo’ak’s relationship be further explored in Avatar 3but that Scoresby will also return.
“We see Payakan as a character, not just a creature,” Landau said. “We will continue to explore his relationship with Lo’ak.”
While Landau did not explain what Scoresby’s role will be in the third film, he did confirm that the character would be back. Considering he lost an arm at the hands of the Payakan, it is possible that he will seek his own revenge against both the Payakan and the Na’vi people as a whole.
“Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri and their children), the troubles that follow them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the struggles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies that they are subjected to.” says the official synopsis.
