Netflix has dropped the official trailer for Jung_Eits latest South Korean action sci-fi thriller, which comes from Train to Busan director Yeon Sang-ho. The film will be available for streaming on January 20.
The video gives us an example of a dystopian future where Earth is no longer habitable due to the effects of climate change. It focuses on a legendary mercenary’s transformation into an AI that will serve as the ultimate weapon in the new war.
Jung_E is written and directed by Yeon Sang-ho, who previously worked with Netflix on the supernatural thriller series Course to hell. The film also reunites Yeon with lead star Kim Hyun-joo after working together in Course to hell. where she portrayed lawyer Min Hyejin. Now, in the upcoming action sci-fi film, Kim is set to go up against a highly trained soldier who becomes the main subject of a cloning experiment.
“In a post-apocalyptic near future, a researcher at an AI lab leads the effort to end a civil war by cloning the brain of a heroic soldier—her mother,” reads the synopsis.
The film will also star Ryu Kyung-soo (Itaewon Club) as Sang-hoon, Park So-yi (free us from the evil) as Seohyun and Volpi Cup-winning actress Kang Soo-yeon (The surrogate woman) in her final role following her sudden death from a cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 55 in 2022.
