According to The Film and Television Industry Alliance, produced at Warner Bros.’ forthcoming untitled Ocean’s Eleven the prequel, which will star Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, is scheduled to begin this coming March 6. The listing also says the project is a remake of the original 1960 film. Ocean’s 11.
The one without title Ocean’s Eleven the prequel will be directed by Jay Roach from a script written by Carrie Solomon. The project will be produced by Gary Ross, Josey McNamara, Michelle Graham, Tom Ackerley and Olivia Milch.
So far, Robbie and Gosling are the only two confirmed cast members in the latest heist comedy set in 1960s Europe. This marks the two A-list stars’ latest collaboration since the film adaptation of Greta Gerwig’s long-awaited live-action Barbie movie that hits theaters later this year.
The original 1960 film was directed by Lewis Milestone. It starred the members of the famous Rat Pack, including Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop. The film was also directed by Emmy and Golden Globe-winning veteran actress Angie Dickinson.
In the early 2000s, Steven Soderbergh directed the remake of Ocean’s Eleven which also featured a star-studded ensemble led by George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon. Due to its box office success, it was followed by three more installments, including the spin-off Ocean’s 8, which featured Sandra Bullock as Debbie Ocean, the sister of Clooney’s Danny Ocean. The franchise currently has a combined worldwide gross of over $1 billion at the box office.
