Box Office Results: Black Panther Battles Santa Claus

Marvel’s epic Black Panther: Wakanda Forever maintained its position at the top of the domestic box office this weekend, reaching $17.59 million in its fourth picture. All told, the superhero film has collected an incredible $393.7 million domestically and $733 million worldwide. While the sequel is miles away from the original Black Panther’s $1.382 billion worldwide gross, it runs 6 percent ahead Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessaccording to Deadline. Wakanda forever has one more week to himself before James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water sweeping cinemas in December. 15.

In a surprising twist, Universal/87 North’s Violent night earned an impressive $13.3 million in its opening weekend, just below the studio’s $16.2 million Krampus back in 2015. Given its R rating, this is definitely a win for Universal and it will be interesting to see how high this Santa can fly in the remaining weeks. Worldwide, the picture grossed $20.3 million.

Overall, it was a relatively quiet weekend, and the offers in the coming weeks (apart from Avatar) also looks minimal compared to previous years.
