After the success of Harry Potter reunion and competition shows, Warner Bros. TV Group CEO Channing Dungey has said the company is in discussions to expand it Harry Potter TV catalogue.
Dungey was speaking during the British television conference Content London, where she was asked by Variety about whether another television project is based on Harry Potter would come. This comes after the success of HBO Harry Potter reunion, as well as the Helen Mirren host Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Heroes game show that premiered last year.
“There’s a huge ambition for it and we’re engaged in a number of different conversations,” Dungey said, before saying that while there’s not much more to discuss at the moment, the fan base for Harry Potter continues to be as active and passionate as ever.
“I wish I could tell you that something was imminent on the horizon, but there’s a lot of interest and a lot of passion for it, so absolutely,” Dungey said. “What’s amazing is that you see how the audience is so engaged and so ready. Our unscripted team did an amazing Return to Hogwarts special for HBO last year that resonated so much, we did a quiz show, The tournament of houses, hosted by Helen Mirren. The crowd is ready, they want to go, so we just are [trying] to figure out what the right next step is.”
While the world off Harry Potter movie remains up in the air after the lackluster performances Fantastic beasts movie, it seems like Warner Bros. Discovery is heavily invested in Harry Potter franchise as a whole. Whether it results in new stories or just more Harry Potter adjacent shows must wait to be seen.
