Interview: Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Percy Hynes-White & Joy Sunday

ComingSoon editor-in-chief Tyler Treese spoke Wednesday Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Percy Hynes-White and Joy Sunday star on Netflix The Addams Family series by Tim Burton, which is now streaming.

“The series will chart the titular heroine’s years as a student at the peculiar Nevermore Academy as she attempts to master her new psychic ability,” reads the synopsis, “While also thwarting a monstrous killing spree terrorizing the local town and solving the supernatural mystery, that entangled her parents 25 years ago—all while navigating her new and very tangled relationship with the strange and diverse student body.”

Tyler Treese: Emma, Enid is such a fun character and I really like the friendship she developed with the Thing throughout. What was it like filming with what I assume was a prosthetic and seeing it come to life?

Emma Myers: Well, it was a mix of a prosthetic and a real person. We had a guy named Victor who is a magician who would actually do all of Thing’s moves. Sometimes it was really difficult to film with the prosthetic because you kind of have to hold it in a certain place and then they have to do the CGI stuff. But I really enjoyed it. It was something I had never done before – working with one hand.

Joy, I love the character Bianca and the whole aspect of her being a siren and the vulnerability that comes with it. Are these relationships she has real? Can you trust someone with that power? Can you speak to that depth of character?

Happy Sunday: You know, it’s funny. Of course, I think someone who has the power to persuade people can seem really scary, but at the end of the day, we all want to be liked and loved by the people we like and love. And so, of course, what she can say can manipulate the situation, but ultimately she’s trying to create relationships organically. So I think that’s what I really stuck with for Bianca, not just staying on the surface of “everything she says could be a lie.” At the end of the day, she wants something that we could all relate to. So I think I got a lot out of it

Percy, I love the mystery element of this show because everyone becomes suspicious – especially Xavier throughout. With this murder mystery in mind, did that affect how you approached the scenes?

Percy Hynes-White: A little bit, yes. There were many scenes where I thought about the area of the story, where it was taking place, and what was known at the time. So many of the things… I acted like I was the killer, you know? Sometimes I acted as suspicious as possible. When I approached the scenes, it was with that in mind.

Hunter, the show is so beautiful and it was filmed in Romania. What was your biggest highlight of filming in Romania?

Hunter Doohan: All the sets are amazing. Most of them were built from scratch there. I know you guys probably have more to say about the actual locations in Romania because they shot outside of Nevermore Academy there. But for me, all my scenes were like in the coffee shop… all of Jericho was built in the middle of a field before that. I also thought the show turned out beautifully. I was completely captivated by it.
