The latest report notes that production of the series is looking for a black male lead in his 30s to play “a patriotic army man.” This character will live in Derry in the 1960s and will try to rally the Derry community during a difficult time. According to the report, he will be a pilot and play a major role.

As for child actors, the report also mentions that HBO is looking to cast a group of young children in various lead roles, though not too much has been revealed about that yet. According to the report, however, the group could resemble the Losers Club That series.

The prequel series will also reportedly include the origin of Pennywise the Clown, the mysterious and supernatural figure that haunts Derry.

Andy Muschietti, who directed both That and 2019 That chapter two, will serve as executive producer for the series alongside Barbara Muschietti — his sister — and Jason Fuchs. The report also notes that both Musichiettis and Fuchs developed the story for the show, with Fuchs writing the script. If the project ends up being made into a series, Andy Muschietti will likely direct the first episode.
