New Iron Man Game Announced From Star Wars: Squadrons Team

It looks like there was at least one Marvel game announcement that didn’t make it the latest Disney and Marvel Games Showcase. Electronic Arts officially announced a new Iron Man game coming from Motive Studio. No release window or platforms were given.

However, the team revealed that it will be a single-player, third-person action-adventure game and is currently in early development. The latter part checks out, as Motive is currently on the way up Dead Space reshoot scheduled for January 27, 2023. It will feature an original story that channels the “complexity, charisma and creative genius of Tony Stark” and is being designed to make players truly feel like Iron Man.

Olivier Proulx leads this team and has worked on other similar games Marvel’s Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. Ian Frazier, Maëlenn Lumineau and JF Poirier were also specifically called out as industry leaders joining Proulx, the latter two of whom worked at Ubisoft on a number of major titles. Proulx gave a statement, calling it a privilege to make such a game.

“It is an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to create a video game based on one of the most iconic Super Heroes in entertainment today,” said Proulx. “We have a fantastic opportunity to create a new and unique story that we can call our own. Marvel encourages us to create something fresh. We have a lot of freedom, which is so engaging for the team.”

Marvel Games Vice President and Creative Director Bill Rosemann also gave a statement about the new title.

“We are thrilled to partner with the talented team at Motive Studio to bring their original vision of one of Marvel’s most important, strongest and most beloved characters to life,” said Rosemann. “Their experience in delivering both established entertainment worlds and exciting gameplay – combined with their authentic passion for the armored icon – will fuel our quest to deliver a love letter to a legendary hero in the form of the ultimate Iron Man video game.”

While vague, the post ended by saying it was the “first of several new games,” meaning there are likely more Marvel games in production. One of those titles could be the rumored open world Black Panther game that will be managed by one of EA’s newest teams.

Insider Jeff Grubb reported on said Black Panther title as well as this Iron Man game. Grubb stated in August that EA was actually working on another Marvel game, something a fellow leaker Tom Henderson is loosely associated with Iron Man. Grubb later then confirmed he was talking about Iron Man. This came after EA announced its renewed commitment to single-player games after the success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderas evidenced by his upcoming list of solo titles such as Dragon Age: Dreadwolfthat Dead Space replay, Star Wars Jedi: Survivorand now this Iron Man game.
