Gran Turismo: Archie Madekwe joins cast of video game adaptation

The crew of Gran Turismo the film adaptation continues to grow and Archie Madekwe joins the cast accordingly The Hollywood Reporter.

Madekwe, who has previously appeared in Midsummer, Travelerand See, will star opposite David Harbour, who was just announced as one of the stars this week. Madekwe will play a teenager who, with the help of Harbour’s character, uses his gaming skills to win a series of Nissan competitions and become an actual professional racing driver.

Originally published in 1997 Gran Turismo franchise has gone on to become one of the most popular racing video game properties of all time, known for its meticulous level of detail and realism. Gran Turismo 7 is the latest game in the franchise, releasing on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in March of this year. The game received high scores from the critical press and impressed fans with its attention to detail and extensive game options. It was criticized for the grinding needed to get its vehicles, but Polyphony Digital has slowly addressed these concerns.

Sony’s stable of gaming properties is making strides in Hollywood as part of a renewed push for video game adaptations on TV and the big screen. Uncharted hit theaters earlier this year and, despite some lukewarm reviews, it was over 400 million dollars at the box office. Sony is also adapting The last of U.S, Horizon Zero Dawnand Twisted Metal in TV series.
