Rogue Squadron no longer dated for 2023 release

Disney has removed Star wars movie Rogue Squadron from its release schedule, leaving the Patty Jenkins-directed film’s fate up in the air right now.

The move comes after the film’s removal from Disney’s 2021 production schedule. Now, its release date, which was set at December 22, 2023, has also been removed. While the decision likely has to do with the fact that filming for the project did not start at its original time, the future of Rogue Squadron are left incredibly cloudy after this and last year’s reports that the film had been shelved.

According to a report from Puck Matthew Belloni last year, Jenkins and Lucasfilm executives were unable to agree on a script for her planned Rogue Squadron film, where Jenkins had reportedly moved on to other projects she has planned, including the long-awaited Wonder Woman 3 at Warner Bros.

Currently, it is unknown if the film will ever see the light of day as no official confirmation of the film’s cancellation has ever been acknowledged.

That Star wars the film, if ever released, would mark the first feature film in the long-running franchise to be helmed by a female director. Patty Jenkins developed the project together with Matthew Robinson (The invention of lying). The story is set to introduce a new generation of starfighter pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives in a high-speed, frontier thrill ride, moving the saga into the future era of the galaxy.
